The Babergh Conservative-led coalition has maintained the sound finances established by the previous administration. We have not cut any of our services, despite the continuing reduction in government grants. We have taken bold but necessary decisions, including establishing a much-needed regular income stream from our commercial property investments, despite hostility and misinformation from our opponents. Since 2011 we have achieved cumulative savings and income of £17.4m through sharing services with Mid Suffolk, continual improvement in service delivery, better use of technology and maximising commercial opportunities. Although we are coping with the immediate effects of Covid with government support, our medium-term outlook has deteriorated and we have some tough challenges to face and decisions to make.
